The Architects were Hidehiro Fukuda architects. It was located in hakodate, hokkaido, japan. The project architect was Hidehiro Fukuda, Hajime Kagoshima. The structural engineer was Ryozo Umezawa. The project area reached 152.28sqm.
”duplex house in tokito” was planned to build as both a two-family home and an atelier, in a quiet residential area in Hakodate City, Hokkaido.

”Paper crane” was used as the design concept, because it needed to express the two generation’s long, happy life together. In Japan had a tradition to give ”origami cranes” to loved ones, wishing them a long life. Two layers of space on the park side were provided, and one layer on the neighbor’s house side. A narrow space was left in the center. This narrow interspace was a path which connects the entrance hall and the terrace.Even though it was inside of the modern house, the same materials were chosen as the house exterior for the walls, and a transparent material for the roof, so that the parents who had a difficulty going out the door could sense as if they were outside.

The space architecture was built in order to represent the same philosophy as the room appearance. At the area appearing like a bird, opening her wings, an atelier and the Buddhist altar rooms were located. Where the area looked like a bird resting, a living room and a bed room were positioned. Structural design, done by Ryouzo Umezawa, was produced only by the periphery. So, the partition wall could be positioned freely. The wall was entirely presented in white. All rooms were linked with white space and passages. Diagonal lines joining roofs showed orientation of the interior landscape transforming gradually.

This house lined with oriented strand board in Hakodate, Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan, was completed by Japanese studio Hidehiro Fukuda Architects. It was called Duplex House in Tokito. The house design was planned to house two families. A central corridor connected the two adjacent faceted rectangular structures. Little square windows were set irregularly. Photographs were by Hidehiro Fukuda.
